Quilty Pleasures. Liberty of London March-April 2010
Katherine was commissioned by Liberties to create five new quilts for their in-store selling exhibition to celebrate Quilts1700 – 2010 at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Katherine made a charity quilt from donated fabrics and clothes of Liberty staff. The quilt was acutioned on ebay to raise money for Variey Club childrens charity.

 

Bricolage pop up project space. Brixton Village Market December 2009-January 2010
Bricolage moved in to number 45 Brixton Village to transform an empty unit into a thinking, working and selling space. They ran sell out workshops in Patchwork quilting and darning and sold their hand made textiles from the space.

 

Tent London. London Design Festival September 2009
Bricolage is an exciting new design collective specailising in contemporary bespoke fabrics and ‘off the shelf’ products.

The five members formed after meeting at Chelsea college of Art and Deisgn and their creative ‘make-do’ attitude has inspired the designers to join together to create totally unique and considerate textile products.

“What Goes Around...” brings together three of London’s most exciting young designers, textile practitioner Katherine May and printed textile designers Clara Vuletich and Polly Burton.

Featuring contemporary quilted upholstery alongside hand-printed wallpaper and textiles, the three designers have worked collaboratively, creating their designs in response to each others work.

Art of Stitch. March 2008
Art of the stitch is a renowned international exhibition presented by Embroiderers' Guild in association with Coats Crafts to promote the rise stitch in contemporary artistic practice.
Action Man Quilt was one of 944 entries from which 56 where selected to be part of Art of the stitch 2008/9.

From Somwhere. December 2007
From Somewhere fashion label has been recycling since 1997, its principle aim to produce beautiful clothes from textile waste such as production off-cuts, end of rolls and damaged fabrics.
Action Man and Barbie quilts where show cased in the From Somewhere shop and was as part of a launch for Matilda Lee's new book 'Eco Chic'.

Ever Again. October 2007
Ever and Again: Re thinking recycling is the most recent exhibition to have evolved from the research projects at TED (textiles environment design)
For the exhibition 11 of TED designers where asked to create 'upcycled' textile products considering key TED eco design concepts such as short/long life textiles, ethical production and new technologies. Other guest designers and graduates who work with these concepts in their practice, also exhibited ideas.

Action Man quilt was selected to be shown as part of Ever and Again and formed part of the concept of 'long life' textiles. Action Man quilt is made from recycled dolls clothes collected from second hand sources such as car boot sales and e-bay and extends the concept of long life textiles with the notions of memories, comfort and bonds built with the user. The quilt itself enjoys a long life cycle and are often riddled with stories for each generation of user to discover and treasure.
